Jackfield Slalom 2015

A belated and short post re the slalom this last weekend.

160 entries.

2 full days of racing.

Thanks for the paddlers attending and the those who volunteered to judge and those club members who helped run the event.

Till next year.

Slalom Division 2

Course is up and now awaiting the arrival of the paddlers.

As mentioned previously the site will be closed for general paddling.

Those members coming to assist in the running of the event if you can please lift share as we have a big entry and parking will be at a premium.

Work Party – Slalom

The club are hosting and running a nationally ranked division 2 slalom on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of July. The course and site are setup on the Friday and the event runs through till about 4 or 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The site won’t be open for general paddling over these three days. A note to members, slalom may not be your interest but the slalom brings in a far greater amount of money than memberships do, so the work of a small number of volunteers subsidises your/our club. So don’t come down just to watch, get involved! Those members volunteering over the weekend please try and car share as parking is tight.

Work Party.

On Sunday 28th June we will have a work party to cut grass and tidy up the site ready for the event, bring gardening tools and spades. From about 10am onwards.

Slalom Day June 7th

On Sunday 7th of June, Staffs and Stone will set up some gates at Jackfield Rapids.

TCC members are welcome to attend, there is a small charge which the funds go to both clubs to cover costs of baler twine etc

The courses will be starting to be set up from 9am and will run through until the afternoon.

Happy Paddling

(If you are planning on a general paddle down on the rapids that weekend then Saturday maybe a better option)

More canoe slalom shenanigans…..

IMG_6404   Two of Telford Canoe Clubs junior paddlers competed this last weekend at the division 3/4 slalom at Stone. Jack Evans was competing in the K1M division 3 class, with two clean runs and a time improvement of 19 seconds on his second run. This resulted in a position of 10th overall and gaining 640 points. Meanwhile in the K1M division 4 class….. One Harry Evans also had very good day with 3 touches on his first run he went clean on his second run and also improved his run time (penalties aside) by 6 seconds. This put Harry in 3rd and he gained promotion to division 3. Well done to both Harry and Jack…..

Slalom July 12th/13th

Site will be closed to general paddling this weekend from friday.

  • Lines up Thursday/Friday
  • Gates up Friday & control tents
  • Event starts Saturday AM
  • Repeat Sunday
  • Help required through weekend and Sunday to tidy up.

Members would be asked to try and liase with each other to share lifts to minimise number of cars on site as we have a big entry this year.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Grass -Cut

The site will be having its grass cut by tractor/machine this morning so please park at top of site in middle of car park to permit the cutting of grass at camping areas and parking areas at bottom of site.

Or paddle this afternoon.

Cheers

Slalom July 12/13

The site will be closed for general paddling on the weekend of the 12/13th of July due to the hosting of a division 2/3 event.

All help will be gratefully received, and for those who wish to paddle slalom remember its volunteers who keep the sport going and other clubs run the events you enter so its only good form to give something back and run an event for others to attend. Also for those non slalom paddlers please note the slalom is fundraiser for the club.

Its hard work but enjoyable and it would be nice to see some new faces.

There will be:

  • Site maintenance the week before (grass cutting)
  • Friday the course will be put up and the control tents erected
  • Saturday and sunday there will be judging/course maintenance/timing to be undertaken
  • Sunday afternoon there will be some tidying up to be done.

We would ask members to come and lend a hand and not just come down and paddle, the club was founded on slalom and the site was obtained as such. Even if you have no experience its all simple stuff.

See you there, its only one weekend a year!
