Regretfully we have had to postpone the Division 2 slalom this weekend 18/19th June, this is due to unseasonably wet weather.
The river level in the last wk was around 0.7mt and this Wednesday it rose to 1.9mt the river level today is 2.9mt and was still rising as of the time of posting thus putting on a course difficult.
So thanks for those who helped prepare the site and we hope at some point to run an event sometime this year, maybe just a one day event or certainly run an event next summer.
Earlier than some years but with the coming rain the level should be decent.
This weekend is the annual TCC ran event.
Course will be erected on Friday, and then event runs from around 9-10am until around 4pm both Saturday and Sunday. Help is welcome especially setting up on Friday and in particular Saturday and Sunday mornings to get people on site and parked and the event ready to run. Then the event tends to run smooth and then help to break down and pack up on Sunday afternoon.
If you are coming try and lift share/get dropped off to minimise the number of club members cars on site.
See you at the weekend!
Its that time of year again albeit earlier than the usual July date.
This is a great event which helps with club funds and a great insight into the racing aspect of our sport.
Keep the dates free in the diary!!
Course is erected Friday and then help is needed especially on Friday afternoon/pm and then Saturday and Sunday mornings and then breaking down the course/packing away on the Sunday afternoon.
More to follow nearer the time.
New code has been put on the lock today, members who have renewed should have received the codes with the membership cards, some were handed out and others will have been received in post if SAE enclosed with membership renewal.
River may rise with the rain (looks out of window) but provisionally a Saturday morning paddle may be in the offing this week 11am at Jackfield.
If you haven’t already renewed your membership bring along this Saturday (in an envelope with payment and a S.A.E), gate code will be changing soon.
A belated and short post re the slalom this last weekend.
2 full days of racing.
Thanks for the paddlers attending and the those who volunteered to judge and those club members who helped run the event.
Till next year.
Course is up and now awaiting the arrival of the paddlers.
As mentioned previously the site will be closed for general paddling.
Those members coming to assist in the running of the event if you can please lift share as we have a big entry and parking will be at a premium.
A log has floated down and lodged itself in the rapids by the hole.
Take proper precautions and scout the rapid and steer well clear.
We will take a look at removing tomorrow at the work party.
On Sunday 7th of June, Staffs and Stone will set up some gates at Jackfield Rapids.
TCC members are welcome to attend, there is a small charge which the funds go to both clubs to cover costs of baler twine etc
The courses will be starting to be set up from 9am and will run through until the afternoon.
(If you are planning on a general paddle down on the rapids that weekend then Saturday maybe a better option)
The site will be closed for general paddling on the weekend of the 12/13th of July due to the hosting of a division 2/3 event.
All help will be gratefully received, and for those who wish to paddle slalom remember its volunteers who keep the sport going and other clubs run the events you enter so its only good form to give something back and run an event for others to attend. Also for those non slalom paddlers please note the slalom is fundraiser for the club.
Its hard work but enjoyable and it would be nice to see some new faces.
There will be:
- Site maintenance the week before (grass cutting)
- Friday the course will be put up and the control tents erected
- Saturday and sunday there will be judging/course maintenance/timing to be undertaken
- Sunday afternoon there will be some tidying up to be done.
We would ask members to come and lend a hand and not just come down and paddle, the club was founded on slalom and the site was obtained as such. Even if you have no experience its all simple stuff.
See you there, its only one weekend a year!
